Booksui vs Dubsado

A Booksui alternative to Dubsado

Dubsado is known for how much of it you can shape yourself: forms, canned emails, workflows, every field. Booksui takes the opposite bet for wedding photographers — the pipeline, checklists and client messages come with the trade, galleries are built in, and the first week is spent booking, not building.

Dubsado is known for a deeply customizable client-management system — forms, workflows and automations you build to match exactly how you work. The table below sets Booksui’s own features next to that, in plain terms.

TopicBooksuiDubsado
SetupPick your trade during onboarding and the pipeline, phase checklists, email templates and contract templates are installed for it. Edit what you like; nothing needs building to start. You design the workflows, forms and automations yourself. Many users hire a setup specialist or buy a template to get going.
Client galleriesBuilt in — proofing, favorites, downloads, print and album offers, and search by what is in the photo. Delivery is part of the same job record as the contract and the invoice. Not a core feature; paired with a separate gallery product.
The inquiryA shared inbox where a website inquiry, its email replies, texts and private team notes sit on one thread next to the event details, and replies to what you send come back to the same conversation.Lead-capture forms feed a project; email is handled through connected accounts and canned emails.
AutomationsPhase-based: entering a phase adds the checklist and offers the client message. Email sequences exist, but they are off until you switch each one on, and a client reply pauses them.Workflow-based, very flexible, entirely yours to design and maintain.
PaymentsThrough your own Stripe account. Deposits, balances and print sales land in your Stripe, on Stripe’s terms, and Booksui never holds the money.Through connected processors, per their current options.
AIOptional drafts you read before anything sends: a first reply to an inquiry written from your calendar and price list, contract review notes, and gallery search. Nothing emails a client on its own.Varies; check their current offering.
PriceStarter is free with no card (3 galleries, 1 booking page, 10 active inquiries). Pro $29/mo, Studio $59/mo, Agency $99/mo. 30-day refund on your first paid month.Set by Dubsado and changed by Dubsado; their current pricing page is the only honest source, so this page does not quote it.

Who switches, and why

  • Photographers who bought a Dubsado template two years ago and still do not fully trust what their workflows will send.
  • Studios that want galleries, contracts and the inbox in one place instead of Dubsado plus a gallery tool plus Gmail.
  • Solo shooters who want the tool to carry the process so they can stop maintaining it.

What you keep

  • Your clients and jobs — imported by CSV, mapped once.
  • Your contract language: paste your clauses into Booksui’s contract templates; the merge fields work the same way.
  • Your canned emails, as email templates with the same merge tags.

What changes

  • Automation is phase-driven rather than free-form. Powerful Dubsado workflows with many branches will need rethinking as phases plus a few sequences.
  • Forms are simpler: an inquiry form and questionnaires, not a form builder for every purpose.
  • Galleries and delivery join the job, which removes a tool and a monthly bill.

How the move happens

  1. 1Export clients and projects from Dubsado as CSV.
  2. 2Import → Upload CSV in Booksui; map the columns once and confirm.
  3. 3Recreate your contract as a template (paste, then replace names with merge fields) and your two or three key emails.
  4. 4Turn on the phase emails you actually want. They ship off.

Importing

Any CSV of clients or jobs imports through the generic path: upload, map the columns once, review, confirm. Nothing is created until you say so, and a second run of the same file does not duplicate anyone.

When Dubsado is the better choice

If you love designing systems — branching workflows, conditional forms, a process nobody else has — Dubsado gives you that canvas, and Booksui’s opinionated pipeline will feel like a constraint.

Questions

Can I bring my Dubsado workflows to Booksui?
Not as-is. Booksui automates by job phase (checklists and suggested client messages per phase) plus opt-in email sequences, rather than free-form workflows. Most studios rebuild a Dubsado workflow as a phase with a checklist and one or two emails, and find it shorter.
Will Booksui send anything to my clients automatically?
Not unless you switch it on. Phase emails are installed off; sequences are opt-in; AI drafts are drafts. A client reply pauses any running sequence.
How do I import from Dubsado?
Export clients and projects as CSV, then use Import → Upload CSV. You map columns once, review, and confirm. Re-uploading the same file does not create duplicates.
Does Booksui replace my gallery tool?
Yes for new deliveries: galleries, proofing, downloads and print sales are built in. Past galleries can stay where they are, linked from the client record.
